the farthest thing from us
The heart is a thing of longing and mystery.
The hearts of men and women are things that are incomparable to one another. They have such distinct desire. Their desires may intersect however they are different. The place where they meet at a whole is love. They seem so different and have similar desires at certain points and in certain places but we can always depend on the one similarity which is love. Love is what drives us all. We all long to and to be loved. We are emotional and spiritual beings. We long for the love of others and of God.
You may ask what is love. Love is not what is described in the dictionary or by media. God’s love is perfect love. Does this sound like perfect love?
Love: warm affection, strong emotional attachment,; sexual passion or desire; charity, benevolence; self-sacrificing goodwill; devotion; one whom or that which one loves; attractive person or thing; term of endearment..
I mean there are attributes of love in there. However it seems all to based on ways that should not be ours. Love is not sexual. Sex comes with marriage. Marriage does not come for sex. Attractive person or THING! No. I mean to say that you will not be attracted to your spouse would in fact be wrong. I do not believe someone would marry someone that they thought was ugly, to be very frank. However THINGS have nothing to do with it.
Love: Desire, passion, emotion, self-sacrifice, goodwill, devotion. Those are real. They are not complete however who could ever “figure” love out? I don’t think it is able to be “figured.” I believe it can be discovered, uncovered. We do inherit some “love.” Though as human beings we are quite selfish or unloving. We are meant to love. We are here to love. Are we not?
What about perfect love. Is it out of reach? I believe that we in ourselves cannot love perfectly. With God we may love incredibly. It is God’s love that we inherit; it is that perfect love that is a gift for us. Yet, we are not perfect and never will be.
The heart is unreadable if you will. To know the heart of someone takes a life time, to know your own seems to take longer. You can see what is in a persons heart by how they live or how they treat others. Can you see through them? Not so. Love is our purpose yet it seems impossible. The heart is our most prized possession yet it seems the furthest away. Is it mystery or dysfunction? I would suggest to say that it is beyond our understanding and if not it is just a mystery.
Imagine life without mystery. Imagine love without heart.
